Roll Top Baths
By Gary Smithick

I love beautiful features in my home. I am lucky to have an old Edwardian property with a wealth of character details. I have a beautiful stained glass picture window on my half landing and each room has beautiful deep skirting boards and panelled ceilings. Throughout the house there are parquet floors and original fireplaces and it is a real pleasure to sit in my house and admire the craftsmanship that went into it. The one problem with the house though is the bathroom. A previous owner had ripped out the period bathroom and replaced it with an ugly modern suite. I am determined to restore it to its former glory and am hunting for Roll Top Baths at the moment. I feel Roll Top Baths are a key feature in a period property and I am trying to find a genuine period piece to finish off my home. Someone advised me that architectural salvage yards are a really good place to find authentic period Roll Top Baths so I am taking my father with me this weekend to have a good hunt around to find my perfect bath and sink. The one concession I am going to make is to install a modern power shower.

Wooden fixtures and fittings inside modern homes make them feel like dreamy types of dwellings. Wooden floors have been increasingly popular over the years and furniture items are bought to match in with the wooden themes. Interior doors can also enhance the theme if they are shown in their natural glory. White or red oak doors are proving to be popular because they radiate such a warm feeling. The red oak varieties of oak doors are particularly attractive to look at. When finished with modern ranges of door furniture they can fit inside any contemporary home. Apartments can add the oak doors to their apertures and they will look right at home. Large detached premises can also fit oak doors inside and they`ll look just as good. It`s hard to think of any type of residential home that wouldn`t look fine when the oak doors were fitted. Terraces will look tasty, semis will look superb and it`s all because the oak doors are so appealing. With numerous designs to choose from and sizes to opt for any room in the home can benefit by the beautiful oak doors. Wood is such a versatile material that it can be used throughout the home and especially when door frames need filling.
